Kitchen
Compared to the rest of the 1848 Greek Revival home, the garden has noticeably lower ceilings, which we embraced and used to our advantage by layering the softness and subtle reflectivity of Venetian plaster across the continuous ceiling plane, leading the eye directly to the outdoor space. Soft limestone skips across the floor in a tonal checkerboard that brings the stateliness of Old New York into the new century.
Dark-cyan millwork grounds the space and carries the saturation of the rear yard landscape into the home. Layers of deep emerald and turquoise marbles enhance the color saturation of the space. Warm white oak wood tones and brass accents bring depth to the room and help delineate the program of the open space. A conversational seating area in front of the large sliding doors is the perfect place to perch between the bustle of the kitchen and the tranquility of the garden. All of these elements combine to create a sophisticated, colorful, and elevated space as the central axis of the home.
