Our intention for this space was to reimagine the room off of the kitchen into something more special and curated... something not as typical and/or utilitarian as might be expected. We wanted the space to be multi-functional, yet luxe, incorporating the opportunity for fine dining (with an extendable table), lounging with friends for drinks, a comfortable place to work from home, or, simply enjoying a cup of coffee/tea for reflection time.

The previous iteration of this room was a Family Room / Playroom. We closed the doorway leading from the mudroom, to make way for our custom 14' banquette, added warmth and texture with gold-hued grasscloth walls, created custom lacquered cabinetry, made the fireplace functional with a Hearth Cabinet unit, and added custom remote-controlled window blinds by Hunter Douglas to optimize both privacy and light on the ground floor of the house. The rich color palette of the room started with a unique Safavieh Home vintage over-dyed and sculpted area rug. No room designed by Rinehardt / Miller for entertaining, is without books and a bar set-up, whenever possible, and a bit of whimsy, like the neon sign, is likely to show up as well.
