Mudroom
The Mudroom is typically a small utilitarian space that welcomes the family home. Our goal was to create a striking atmosphere of magic and mystery, while incorporating all the functional elements of a typical mudroom: shoe storage, wall hooks, and a bench to sit comfortably while removing shoes.
We enjoy collaborating with local artists and craftspeople to design unique elements for our spaces, and we are showcasing the work of many friends and colleagues in our room. The sculptural screen at the staircase was brought to life by James Harmon of Abstract Quality, and is carved from solid walnut wood, based on our sketch; the murals were painted on site by Esme Shapiro; the stone bench was fabricated by Mondial Tiles and Sync Construction, with brass legs by Constant Studios. We designed the brass wall hooks for the space, which are inspired by inchworms.
