For the Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse, SFW takes to the roof, transforming the sun-drenched terrace into the Stollar Fearins Welch Athletic Club—an imagined club where old-school East Coast elegance meets a spirited sense of sporting nostalgia. Equal parts timeless and playful, the rooftop retreat draws on the familiar codes of historic tennis and country clubs, reinterpreted with an irreverent wink. The club motto sets the tone: This truly IS your grandmother’s club.
The Clubhouse Pergola, constructed by SilverLining Inc. and softened with sheer Donghia fabric, anchors the rooftop as an inviting, shaded retreat. Beyond, Center Court brings a dose of friendly competition with table tennis and furnishings by Janus et Cie. Custom trellis walls, painted in Farrow & Ball Tanner’s Brown and layered with lush greenery, frame a mirrored treillage archway by Accents of France.
Underfoot, checkerboard turf and verdant plantings, cultivated and expertly selected by Evan C. Lai Landscape Design, lend the entire rooftop the romance of a garden club suspended above the city.
As evening settles in, brass sconces by Remains Lighting Co. illuminate the trellis-lined path toward the Sky-View Club Bar and Legends Lounge at the opposite end of the roof. Here, the pace slows: guests can retreat between matches, gather for a drink, and settle into pillows upholstered in a classic floral Schumacher print—a fitting nod to the layered, collected interiors of clubs from another era.
High above the bustle of Brooklyn, the Stollar Fearins Welch Athletic Club offers a transportive escape into a world of leisurely afternoons, friendly rivalries, and timeless summer style. Nostalgic without taking itself too seriously, it is a celebration of the rituals—and pleasures—of club life, reimagined for today. And, naturally, no visit is complete without collecting your new member Access Pass for the golf cart bumper on the way out.
See you at the club!

WITH SUPPORT FROM JANUS ET CIE
Stollar Fearins Welch is a Manhattan-based architecture and interiors firm known for creatively inspired spaces that express warmth, personality, and style in equal measure.
Founded by three born-and-raised Southerners turned New Yorkers, our studio takes a lifestyle approach to each project, considering how you’ll be living in your home and how it will make you feel. Our aesthetic has been described as lived-in luxury, with a layered mix of vintage, new, and custom furnishings, but we like to put it more simply: Our work makes you happy.
In a Stollar Fearins Welch residence, nothing is too precious, but everything is special. Rather than imposing restrictions on how you live in your home, our designs open new possibilities. We don’t want to overstate things, but clients have told us that our work has inspired change in their relationships and even their parenting. For us, there’s no greater compliment.
Collaborative by nature, we welcome clients seeking a design partner that can deftly balance intuition and rigor while making the entire process feel effortless. We invite big ideas. We embrace ambition.
Our work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Luxe, Cottages and Gardens, Elle Décor, and House Beautiful, among other publications.
